Bill is a futures and systems change practitioner, specialising in the intersection between science, technology and society. He built up his practice through a career as a research and innovation manager in the computer industry in government and corporate research labs, and then co-founding a specialist innovation consultancy creating new digital products for international clients.

After leaving the computer industry, Bill started working closely with the International Futures Forum (IFF) which works to restore practical hope and wise initiative in complex, messy, seemingly intractable issues. With his IFF colleagues he has pioneered the Three Horizons approach to convening conversations about the future and creating the conditions for transformative innovation. His book Three Horizons: The Patterning of Hope explores the foundations of the practice in future consciousness.

Seeing the potential in Three Horizons for democratising the practice of futures and transformative change, he co-founded the Future Stewards initiative which is dedicated to building a hub and commons of tools and practice in service of a regenerative future.

Bill has joined Ecocentric Futures as a PhD researcher in order to explore the deeper practice of regenerative future consciousness.
